How to play

Introduction

Morra is a 3,000-years-old hand game of prediction and numbers. The two players reveal their hand simultaneously, presenting a number of fingers between 1 and 5, while calling out a number between 2 and 10. Any player who successfully guesses the summation of fingers revealed by both players scores a point.

History

Morra is believed to have originated in ancient Egypt, as the first known iconographic trace of the game, dating back to about 4,000 years ago, has been found in the Beni Hasan tombs (Ebers, 1878; Falkener, 1892), a cemetery site of the Egypt middle kingdom. Vase paintings show that Morra was played in Greece since 400 B.C. (Perdrizet, 1898). The game was then popular during the Roman Empire (also cited by Cicero in his De Officiis 3.77) when through the Roman legions spread across the Mediterranean basin. Morra is still played in many countries nowadays in different variants.

Dynamic of the game

Once you have set your settings and clicked on Start game button you will see the gameboard. AT the top of your screen you can see computer's scoreboard and hand. Centered in the scoreboar you could see one or a number of spots indicating the number of team members. A pulsing spot means that is the current member of the team playing, filled spots means the number of remaining members of such team and empty spots are those members who have been already knocked out.

On the right side of each scoreboard you will see a big spot with the current score of that player/team. If that spot is blinking means that player won a point at the latest round with a winner in it. It will be blinking until the other team earns a point.

Below computer's scoreboard you will see computer's hand, a gap where round results will be displayed and player's hand. Underneath your hand you will see your scoreboard with the same display than computer's one.

Down your scoreboard you can see 2 rows of 5 buttons. On the first row you will be able to choose how many fingers you want to display in next round. Once you choose the number of fingers the second row of buttons will show you what are the options you have to choose for your call.

Tip: This second row will show you the reasonable options what you can choose for your call. Those options will be always the result of adding a number between 1 to 5 to the number of fingers you have previously chosen. This is because if fr example you chose 3 fingers you couldn't win if choose a number smaller than your fingers selection or bigger that the max number of fingers (5) the computer can show.

You can choose your fingers selection as many times as you want but at the moment you click on one of the numbers for your call the round will start, both the computer and you will show your fingers and shout your call and the total result will be displayed in between both hands. If the total is coloured green means you earnt the point, red means the computer got the point and yellow means both of you matched the result and got a point. The result will be displayed for a short time before the next round.

The game ends when one of the players reaches the target points with a, at least, +2 difference with the opponent. If you are playing on Team mode the game ends when one of teams has no members.
